MAJA- AND RIISIÖSAARET RECREATION AREA
The islands are located near the city of Hamina, approx. 12 km from Tervasaari’s harbour. There is an extremely beautiful natural bay between the islands. You can reach the destination with a large boat too, depth 2-3 m. Natural trails run around the islands.
There is a visiting boat dock at Majasaari where you can moor your boat. There are a total of approx. 25 places at the different platforms of the shores. In the vicinity of the platform, there are fireplaces, toilets and the starting location of the nature trail. The island’s hut is 0.5 km away.
The islands of Maja- and Riisiösaaret are completely recreation areas. A tent can be erected in a suitable location in the terrain. Fires are only allowed to be made at official campfire sites. Always move around on the island along the trails, in this way we can avoid the unnecessary wear of nature.
It is nice to spend time at the islands of Maja- and Riisiösaaret.
The area has a 2.2-km-long nature trail. It winds around the area of both islands and presents the history and nature diversity.
You can go fishing at shore. Fishing permits can be paid online. A permit for one lure is subject to the Government’s fishing management fee and the Southern Finland’s provincial lure fishing fee. There are big fish in the vicinity of the shore. Salmon, trout, whitefish and pike have been caught at the shores of the islands… tight lines.
